Workforce Development Program

With fifteen years of experience of workforce development experience, Workforce Specialist Marc Smierciak was the ideal candidate to serve in this new role.  Starting in January of 2020, Marc began working with referrals from BPNC in Brighton Park and today provides students with the necessary resources virtually to secure employment: resume work, interview prep, and post job placement conversations to ensure positive outcomes. In this role, Marc helps empower students to better promote their vast capabilities and previous experiences is helping to create a bilingual talent pipeline for local employers.

In Chicago, a wealth of resources exist, but navigating different agencies and requirements can be difficult especially for those who speak English as a second language. Marc frequently reminds students that they are not just PODER students but they are part of the PODER community.  And our community’s resilience is unquestionable. During these challenging times, PODER is cognizant of the unique challenges posed to Spanish-speaking adult immigrants, and we remain committed to helping our community through actively listening and responding.
